Welsh indies will be given funds to boost innovation in their development of shows under a BBC Wales-backed accelerator scheme.

The broadcaster has partnered with local accelerator network Media Cymru to invest £250,000 in up to five projects from indies based in Wales.

BBC Wales head of commissioning Nick Andrews said the scheme would back indies keen to innovate.

“This could mean using new technology, developing new ways of working or a fresh collaboration between two parties, or it could be an innovative new format,” he said.

Media Cymru director, Professor Justin Lewis, said the network wanted to offer indies the dedicated time and resources to innovate in ways that could then feed into content commissioning.

The scheme is looking for ideas that appeal across the whole of the UK.

The partners are launching the fund with an online event on 12 October, hosted by Andrews.
