Production managers on Apple TV+ drama The Essex Serpent, BBC2’s Then Barbara Met Alan and ITV’s Concert for Ukraine are in the running for an inaugural RTS Craft and Design Award.
Vying for production manager of the year are:- Karl Liegis (See-Saw Films’ The Essex Serpent), who has previously worked on Channel 4's This Is England '90, The Royals and Glue
- Laura Djanogly, Jen Bollom and Mei Ye Li (Livewire Pictures’ Concert for Ukraine). Their previous credits include Hypothetical and Have I Got News For You (Djanogly), Not the Robbie Williams Christmas Show and Madness Rocks Big Ben Live (Bollom) and BBC Proms and Dinner Date (Ye Li)
- The entire production management team on Dragonfly/She Films disability activism drama Then Barbara Met Alan - including Dejan Cancar, Hannah Dunnell, Laura Hodgson, Eli Pendlebury, Alison Seymour and Pauline Stone
Scripted indie Sister leads the way with nine nominations, including five for Sky drama Landscapers and two each for BBC1’s This Is Going to Hurt and Sky’s The Baby – with directors Wil Sharpe (Landscapers) and Lucy Forbes (This Is Going to Hurt) going head-to-head, with both facing Marc Munden (Channel 4’s Help) in the category.
The BBC leads the way with 35 nominations, followed by Sky (13) and ITV (11). Apple TV+ has picked up nine nods, including three for BBC Studios Prehistoric Planet and two for Merman’s comedy-drama Bad Sisters. Channel 4 and Netflix each have five.
In the multicamera director category, Julia Knowles has two of the three nominations, for BBC Studios Events Productions broadcasts The Earthshot Prize 2021 and Platinum Party at the Palace, with Liz Clare also nominated for Fulwell 73’s ITV show An Audience with Adele.
Factual directors making the list are Kira Phillips (Blast! Films’ Channel 4 series Jeremy Kyle: Death on Daytime, Sarah Collinson (Hardcash Productions/The Economist’s Fearless: The Women Fighting Putin for ITV) and Jane McMullen (Mongoose’s BBC doc Big Oil vs the World: Denial).
The awards ceremony takes place on 5 December.
