The execs behind BBC shows Celebrity Race Across the World and Small Axe have joined The Garden as the factual indie aims to diversifying its genre mix.
ITV Studios’ 24 Hours in Police Custody label is eyeing more constructed factual after securing Studio Lambert co-pro Squid Game: The Challenge for Netflix and Channel 4 wilderness format Alone, as well as a deeper push into boxset series and factual drama.
Jo Harcourt-Smith, who is executive producing BBC1’s celebrity spin-off of Studio Lambert’s Race Across the World and recently worked on Twofour’s C4 series Make Me Prime Minister, will executive produce constructed factual. She was previously a series producer on Gogglebox and series editor on BBC1’s The Apprentice.
Helping to usher in factual drama co-pros is Helen Bart, who was associate producer on both Small Axe and its documentary companion Uprising. The former news journalist also worked on BBC1’s 2018 doc three-parter Stephen: The Murder That Changed a Nation and recently exec-ed BBC Studios’ PBS hip-hop doc series Fight the Power.
The Garden is also working on several heartland recommissions, including two more series of medical box-set doc Emergency, another series of 24 Hours in A&E, this time from Nottingham, and more 24 Hours in Police Custody.
