Manchester-based scripted indie Saffron Cherry Productions has secured the backing of financial and distribution group Rainmaker Content.
Rainmaker has taken a minority stake in the indie, best known for its Channel 5/Acorn TV drama The Madame Blanc Mysteries, which stars its creative director, the former Coronation Street actor Sally Lindsay.
It also produces kids shows including CBBC’s The Wonton Warrior and Channel 5’s The World According to Grandpa.
The two companies already have a first-look deal in place and the indie’s founder Caroline Roberts-Cherry said Rainmaker’s backing would help the company “get where we want to be faster”.
The deal marks Rainmaker’s first investment in an indie. The distributor’s founder and director Graham Begg will join Saffron Cherry’s board.
