Will Rowson, Channel 4’s first docs commissioner to be based outside of London, is leaving to head up Dragonfly North.
Rowson will join the Manchester arm of the Banijay-owned factual indie in November as creative director, building on titles like BBC1’s Ambulance - which Dragonfly moved to its northern base in 2021 and established talent development schemes - and BBC2’s upcoming Inside the Moulin Rouge.
Having been based in C4’s Leeds hub since it was opened in 2019, Rowson has greenlit shows such as Blast Films!’ George Michael: Outed and Night Coppers and True North’s Top Guns: Inside the RAF, which is currently on air.

Rowson has previously worked for indies such as Candour Productions, True North, True Vision, Blast! Films, Twofour and Love Productions.
Banijay UK facilitated his appointment through its £50m growth fund and Dragonfly managing director Richard Bond said Rowson’s “inspirational leadership” would help boost the northern office as “a centre of documentary excellence”.
