BBC Studios has completed the creative team at its new Specialist Factual Unit with the hire of Eleanor Lee as head of production.

Lee, who line-produced Curious Films’ docs Caroline Flack: Her Life and Death and Reclaiming Amy for Channel 4 and BBC2 respectively, joins the unit following the BBC’s restructure of its established Documentary Unit into two divisions.

The Specialist Factual Unit is head by Alan Holland, who previously ran the Documentary Unit. Lee joins creative director Abigail Priddle and commercial and business development lead Suzanne McKenna in the leadership team.

The unit will commission history, arts, music and culture boxsets, ‘landmark’ docs, single docs and talent-fronted returning series.

Lee joins from Drum Studios, where she held a similar role across specialist factual, docs and current affairs. She has also been head of productions at ACME Films, where her credits included BBC1’s Lawful Killing: Mark Duggan and C4’s Public Enemies: Jay-Z vs Kanye.

Lee, who has partnered with Mama Youth to train and mentor underrepresented talent, said: “I admire the team’s commitment to producing thought provoking and high-quality programmes and I’m excited to be part of such a well-regarded team with a commitment to create a truly diverse and inclusive production environment.”
