Spun Gold’s former head of development is heading up a new factual entertainment and specialist factual indie that will operate under an expanded umbrella company.
Love Monday, run by Kerene Barefield, will sit alongside Spun Gold TV and Penny Lane Entertainment, plus post-production company Wise Wolf, under a new parent company, 53 Degrees Global. These existing businesses have previously operated as the Spun Gold group.
Chaired by Spun Gold chief executive and founder Nick Bullen, 53 Degrees Global will pursue new revenue streams through international digital opportunities and corporate work for high-profile clients on top of its core indie businesses, including further label launches in the near future.
Love Monday’s slate includes Sky Arts’ 3x60-minute series Battle of the Bagpipes, which had been initially attributed to Spun Gold when it was announced in the summer, future series of the channel’s Master Crafters: The Next Generation, and True Royalty TV’s bi-monthly talk show The Royal Beat.
Penny Lane, which produces large-scale events, formatted series including Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh, plus single documentaries and factual and entertainment specials, will continue to be run by former ITV creative director Lee Connolly.
