Channel 4 doc series Evacuation and Kids are vying with BBC2’s Once Upon a Time in Northern Ireland at this year’s RTS Programme Awards.

The trio of shows – from Wonderhood Studios, Expectation and Keo Films/Walk on Air Films respectively – have been shortlisted for best documentary series.

Expectation also has a nod in the best writer – comedy category, for Bridget Christie’s C4 series The Change, while Keo makes the science and the natural world shortlist for its Netflix series Chimp Empire, a co-production with Underdog Films.

The single documentary category is between Proper Content’s Channel 5 doc Anorexic, Sky Documentaries’ Otto Baxter: Not a F***ing Horror Story (Story Films/Archface Films); and C4’s The Price of Truth (Oxford Film & Television).

Love Productions’ C4 hit The Piano is shortlisted for formatted popular factual in its debut year, opposite fellow C4 show Banged Up (Shine TV) and BBC1’s Sort Your Life Out (Optomen). 

The BBC dominates this year’s shortlist with 51 nominations, including all three breakthrough nominees and the three shows in the best limited series category.

Disney+ has secured its first ever nominations, both for Sid Gentle Films’ comedy Extraordinary.
