Big Deal Films, the indie behind BBC3 comedy Dreaming Whilst Black, was named best production company for new talent at this year’s New Voice Awards.
Set up in 2014 by Dhanny Joshi and Thomas Stogdon, Big Deal beat fellow nominees Bad Wolf, BBC Studios, Dancing Ledge Productions, Wildstar Films and Fully Focused Productions to the award.
Big Deal is currently taking part in ITV’s development pilot Amplify: the Companies, and was one of 50 indies selected to receive funding from the BBC’s Small Indies Fund last year.
Meanwhile, ITV was named best broadcaster for new talent for the third year running.
Directors Ben Cheetham (Channel 4’s Pete Doherty:,Who Killed My Son?) and David Allain (three episodes of ITV’s The Bay) won debut director awards in the unscripted and scripted categories respectively.
Jules Hussey, producer of shows including Ralph and Katie, Call the Midwife, Five Daughters and My Mad Fat Diary and an accessibility and diversity champion through her company Brazen Productions, was named Mentor of the Year
