BBC Comedy and BBC Wales are looking for a part-time development producer to work with indies Expectation and Sixteen Media on a Welsh comedy scheme.
Expectation and partner Creative Wales are working with Sixteen Media on the second iteration of the BBC’s Regional Partnership Scheme, following the initial tie-up between Hat Trick and North East indie Sea & Sky Pictures.
The job is being advertised from today on the BBC Commissioning website with applications due by 22 April.
Sixteen works primarily in radio, making BBC Radio Wales Sunday morning live shows and comedies such as Trip Hazard with Eleri Morgan, Double Top, Welcome Strangers and Beena and Amrit, which was adapted for a TV pilot that aired on BBC1 in 2021 (pictured).
It is run by producer/director Sara Allen, whose credits include Prue Leith’s Costwold Kitchen and Rhod Gilbert’s Work Experience.
“There is so much comedy talent in Wales and with the help of a development producer, I’m eager to see what we can all achieve in the next 12 months and beyond.”
Expectation previously made Bafta-winning BBC3 comedy-drama In My Skin in Wales.
Creative director of scripted Nerys Evans said: “Sara is already working with a brilliant array of Welsh talent. We’re looking forward to collaborating on some exciting developments with her. She has a great eye for comedy and a track record in championing new writers and performers.”
The BBC is committed to produce a comedy series, two network dramas and three peak-time factual shows per year from Wales under a Memorandum of Understanding with Creative Wales, now in its third and final year.
In terms of the success of the first partnership, Hat Trick continues to work with Sea & Sky in development, business support and mentorship. The BBC said the indies are in mid-development on a script commission and character development work.
