Freelancers working on high-end unscripted shows that benefit from tax relief are to receive bespoke training under plans drawn up by a ScreenSkills-backed working group.

Set up by the organisation’s HETV Skills Council and working in collaboration with the Unscripted TV Skills Fund, the group features representatives from nine indies, including 72 Films, Twofour, BBC Studios Natural History Unit and The Garden.

Chair Hana Canter, who is chief operating officer of Wild Space, said the launch of the eleventh such working group in the decade since the introduction of the HETV Skills Fund, reflected “the changing landscape and growth of the high-end unscripted content sector and will enable training and career progression specifically tailored to the needs of its workforce”.

She added: “We have put together a fantastic group of representatives from a broad range of production companies and I look forward to working together on how best to allocate the funds in a way that will offer great training opportunities whilst also complementing the successful work already being delivered by the Unscripted TV Skills Fund.”

ScreenSkills director of HETV, Kaye Elliott, added: “Working even closer with unscripted productions will enable us to further strengthen cross-Fund collaboration between the HETV Skills Fund and Unscripted TV Skills Fund, which will help ensure value for money for the sector while addressing the specific needs of different areas of production.”
