Film and TV kit and crew hire company Shift 4 has entered into administration.
The company, which is based in London’s Finsbury Park and in Trafford, Manchester, has appointed David Kemp and Richard Hunt of SFP as joint administrators.
SFP has written to all known creditors asking for any debts owed as of 25 April, when Shift 4 officially went into administration.
Kit rental companies have faced a tough time in the economic downturn. Just over a year ago, Procam entered administration, while Pro-Motion Hire was in a similar situation before it was Greater Manchester company PixiPixel Rental.
Established more than 30 years ago, Shift 4 carried a range of camera, lenses, audio, lighting and grip products from suppliers including Red, Panasonic, Arri, Sony and Canon.
It also offered technical crew such as DoPs, camera operators and camera assistants.
Last year, it launched its cinematography unit Shift 4 Cine, an adaptable facility that enabled DPs, directors and producers to test a variety of camera set-ups and scenarios.
In its accounts for the year to March 31 2022, the company’s fixed assets were valued at close to £6.6 million and its current assets at £1.2 million. At the time, its net assets were valued at £2.2 million.
