Sky factual commissioner and former Raw factual head Tom Barry is joining Netflix’s documentary unit.

Barry is set to start in Kate Townsend’s team in the autumn, after two years as a Sky commissioning editor of documentaries and factual for the company’s channels Documentaries and Nature.

His commissions at Sky include Secret World of Sound with David Attenborough, Bafta-nominated boxing doc Hatton, football series Italia 90, three-part series 7/7: Britain’s Day of Terror and a forthcoming access doc series about professional darts.

Prior to that, Barry clocked up credits on productions including Netflix’s Three Identical Strangers, Chris Packham: Asperger’s and Me (BBC2) and Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy (CNN) over seven years at Raw, latterly as director of programmes, UK factual.

Sky plans to find a replacement for Barry’s role in its doc unit, which is currently headed by commissioning editor Hayley Reynolds in an acting capacity during director of documentaries and factual Poppy Dixon’s maternity leave.
