Fremantle is laying off around 10 staff at drama label Euston Films and docs indie Undeniable, including the heads of both companies.

Following the winding up of factual indie Label 1, the super-indie is continuing what it calls “ongoing strategic planning” as it adjusts to changes in the market.

Euston Films managing directors Kate Harwood and Noemi Spanos are among those exiting the company.

According to Deadline, Fremantle will retain the Euston Films brand, which was created in 1971 and revived in 2014, as well as its IP.

Euston has produced seven dramas in the past decade, including the BBC’s Dublin Murders and upcoming thriller Nightsleeper [pictured], Channel 4’s Baghdad Central and ITV’s The Sister.

Mandy Chang is also leaving, having joined Fremantle in 2021 as global head of docs and moving across to run Undeniable last year. Its development slate includes an exploration of Ruth Wilson’s one-woman play The Second Woman.

The former BBC Storyville exec said she plans to focus on her own slate of films as an independent documentary-maker.

A Fremantle spokeswoman said: “We are continuously reviewing measures necessary for creating a more effective, coordinated and streamlined approach to our business to ensure it is in the best position for future success and growth, and to continue to deliver exceptional creativity and world class content for our valued partners and clients around the world.”
