A trio of former Strictly Come Dancing production team members have launched a factual entertainment indie that will prioritise giving breaks to diverse young talent.
Founded by Jonathon Hancock [pictured], a former senior edit producer on the BBC1 show, Brixton-based indie Reel Scenes Media will develop unscripted content for broadcasters and brands across digital and terrestrial.
It is partnering at launch with youth-run creative agency Young Creators UK, which provides peer-to-peer learning, equipment lending, paid work and creative workshops for young people and connects them with communities and businesses.
Hancock said the partnership demonstrated Reel Scenes’ commitment to “fostering inclusive collaboration and breaking down barriers within the production industry” and bring “fresh and diverse perspectives”.
As well as Strictly, Hancock has been a producer/director on The Apprentice, Come Dine With Me and Britain’s Got Talent and has also worked on Cooking with the Stars, Eurovision Welcomes the World and Dubai: Buying the Dream.
Reel Scenes’ team also includes senior producer Georgia North-Coombes, who has worked as a producer on Strictly and Gordon Ramsay’s Future Food Stars and an AP on Made in Chelsea and Glow Up, and production executive Amy Mcilveen, a former production manager on Strictly and Boss Pitches who has also worked on Top Gear and RuPaul’s Drag Race.
“The demand for unscripted content that pushes boundaries is booming across all platforms,” said Hancock. “We know that there is a strong opportunity in today’s market for broadcasters to leverage more opportunities in the digital space, reach those under-served audiences and forge even more programming collaborations with brands. It’s a great time to be at the forefront of this movement.”
