Our sister company, We Develop Talent training, teamed up with the Film and TV Charity to host an insightful session on Duty of Care in the industry. The subject of working hours was raised. If you’re concerned about long hours or workplace fatigue, here’s the advice they shared:
Reach Out to BECTU: They’re your go-to resource for guidance on European working time directives, turnaround times, and rest breaks (note: BECTU services are for members).
Keep a Log: Track your hours, and encourage colleagues to do the same. A collective record makes it easier to raise concerns.
Strength in Numbers: Raising issues as a group can be more effective than going it alone. Consider nominating a team leader to communicate with management.
Speak Up About Fatigue: If you’re feeling tired, let others know. Fatigue can impact decision-making, so flagging it is part of your responsibility.
Protect Your Crew: By highlighting these risks, you’re doing your due diligence to keep the production safe and the crew well-supported.
Use the Call It App: This app allows you to provide anonymous feedback on issues like safety, mental wellbeing, and harassment (note: while not a resource of the Film and TV Charity, they recommend its use)
