Feature documentary indie Misfits Entertainment is moving into scripted TV and film with the hire of Film4 development chief Ben Coren.
The company behind Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story [pictured],The Contestant and Bafta-nominated McQueen has signed Coren as its first head of scripted.
As well as producing up to two features a year from 2025, Misfits plans to make inroads into scripted TV shows.
The company’s co-founder Dee Ryder said Coren shared Misfit’s “vision of what we can achieve in the scripted space to align with our reputations in docs”, adding:
“Alongside our push into features we are also building out our TV drama slate with many co-production relationships emerging. Ben’s immense development background will support our push to develop relationships with the best homegrown talent.”
Coren was at Film4 for 11 years, including five as head of development and has executive produced films, including dramas How to Have Sex, Enys Men and Earth Mama and documentaries The Shadow Scholars and The Secrets of Me.
“After so long on the financier side, it’s a privilege to move back into the world of indies at such a vibrant and dynamic company, with a commitment to telling stories from outsider perspectives,” Coren said.
