Merman co-founder Clelia Mountford is leaving the company she co-founded with writer/actor Sharon Horgan a decade ago to set up a new scripted label.

Sunburnt Penguin will produce drama and comedy and is part of All3Media, joining the super-indie’s broad portfolio of scripted labels, which includes New Pictures, Two Brothers Pictures and Objective Fiction.

Mountfield and Horgan joined forces to launch Merman in 2014 after collaborating on Channel 4/Sundance comedy The Increasingly Poor of Decisions of Todd Margaret for RDF, where Mounfield was head of comedy.

They have overseen Merman’s string of UK and US series, including Apple TV+ drama Bad Sisters [pictured], BBC2's Motherland and There She Goes, Channel 4's This Way Up and Sky’s Dreamland and Frayed.

Upcoming shows include Motherland spin-off Amandaland and C4’s Disability Benefits, a comedy with Rosie Jones.

All3Media said Mountford is bringing a “strong development slate” to the company.
