Two former UKTV execs have teamed up to launch a comedy production company, Square Pears.
The outfit is run by Iain Coyle, who was head of comedy entertainment at the broadcaster for a decade until he left in 2022, and Joe McVey, who left in 2019 after three years as a commissioning editor.
Specialising in comedy, Square Pear will produce branded content, adverts, shorts, podcasts and TV shows to “service a growing need in the media industry for funny content”, according to its website.
At UKTV, the duo collaborated on shows such as Hypothetical, Judge Romesh and Women on the Verge, with Coyle also overseeing the likes of Meet the Richardsons – in which he also appeared as himself - Unforgiveable with Mel Giedroyc and Taskmaster prior to its transfer to Channel 4.
Coyle has also worked for Hat Trick, Princess and Initial, while Mcvey has held roles at Objective Media Group, Comedy Central and Tiger Aspect.
Since leaving UKTV, Mcvey has run his own Bristol-based indie Super Best Quality Video Productions and also worked on Workerbee/Jackpot Productions’ upcoming Amazon Prime festive Jack Whitehall special Jack in Time for Christmas.
Square Pear is based across London, Bristol and St Leonards.
