Seven directors have been given the chance to hone their multi-camera shooting skills on a special online short-form EastEnders series.

Danny Albury, David Bispham, Benedict Cohen, Nicole Charles, Kerri McLean, Emma Reynolds and Maninderpal Sahota all took part in a month-long EastEnders Multi-Camera Course and will go on to direct episodes of the soap.

The five-part series, Tracey: A Day in the Life, centres on the 60th birthday celebrations of the eponymous barmaid [main picture].

Meanwhile, 17 members of the soap’s crew working in costume, design and lighting were upskilled as part of the course.

Producers have also put 28 actors and eight writers through their paces on accompanying BBC Studios schemes linked to production of the soap.

EastEnders executive producer Chris Clenshaw said the show has “a rich history of championing new creative voices”.

He added: “The show often provides writers, directors and actors with their first credit. We’re really excited to be working with such exciting talent as the show prepares to celebrate its milestone 40th anniversary.”
