Channel 4 is to give 13 indies in the nations and regions extra funding support through an extension of its Emerging Indie Fund.

The companies, each of which has been backed previously by the EIF, will received financial backing to diversify their development slate, plus training to align their content strategies with C4’s priorities.

Nagajan Modhwadia, chief executive of Loughborough-based SLNda, one of the indies that will receive EIF Extra funding, said C4 has been an “incredible cheerleader” for the company since signing it up for EIF in 2021.

Describing the funding as “a vital practical resource”, he added: “We cannot emphasise enough the financial challenges of being an unfunded indie company in the scripted drama space, and this award will enable us to continue developing the writers and the stories that we have so much belief in.”

C4 head of indie relations Rebecca Thompson explained the thinking behind EIF Extra.

“After a period of disruption across the industry, and the launch earlier this year of our new Fast Forward strategy, we wanted to offer some of these indies an opportunity to access some additional support to help them adapt to the changed climate and strategy,” she said.

“The selected indies have already used their EIF experience to build relationships and establish a slate of great ideas, and we’re excited to see where this additional support will lead them.”
