Fremantle-owned scripted indie Dancing Ledge Production has topped the list of Broadcast’s Best Places to Work 2025.
The London-based producer of BBC1’s The Responder and Channel 4’s Big Mood employs 15 full-time staff and operates a hybrid working pattern of three office-based days and two remote working days.
The company offers script editor and production management courses, plus writer bursaries and training schemes. It also assists freelancers with the cost of courses to develop their chosen skillset.
Speaking on a panel at the launch of the list, Dancing Ledge head of production Jacquie Glanville said that finding the time to check in with everyone is crucial for wellbeing.
“The most powerful thing you can do is lead by example, that’s how you create a culture,” she said.
Wonderhood Studios took second place on the list of 32 companies, with ITV Studios’ Manchester-based drama label Quay Street Productions coming in third, Glasgow’s Raise the Roof in fourth, and Banijay company Dragonfly in fifth.
Post house The Finish Line took the top spot on the non-indie shortlist, ahead of Serious Facilities and Red Bee Creative.
The report highlighted aspects such as a co-operative culture, opportunities to have fun in the workplace, benefits such as private medical insurance, and a healthy work-life balance as particularly important to staff.
Some 80% said they had a good work-life balance, compared to 59% of staff at firms that submitted entries but were not shortlisted.
Meanwhile, there was a 15-point difference between the 92% of respondents from BPTW firms, and the 77% of non-qualifiers, who agree that their employer ‘treats me with dignity, not as just a number’.
Similarly, 94% of BPTW firms’ employees agreed that there is a co-operative culture in their organisation, compared with 80% at those that do not make the cut, and 90% say they have fun at work, compared with 82%.
The survey also offered a snapshot of diversity at these businesses.
Women account for an average of 58% of their workforce, led by Minnow Films (80%), The Garden (74%), Bad Wolf (72%) and Stellify Media (69%).
BPTW companies are in line with the UK average of 13% – roughly one in eight – of the workforce being black, Asian or minority ethnic. Top reporting firms include, again, Minnow (29%), Dancing Ledge (27%), The Garden (26%) and Wild Child (18%).
Meanwhile, disabled employees make up 5% of workers, spearheaded by Stellify Media (13%), Raise the Roof (12%), Candour Productions (12%), Blink (11%) and Minnow Films (10%).
