Adolescence co-producer It’s All Made Up Productions plans to step up its unscripted ambitions and open a Liverpool base after securing investment from Avalon.

Actor-turned-director Philip Barantini and executive producer Samantha Beddoe [main picture] said they have built up a development slate of TV drama, film and documentaries that “champion lesser-known and underrepresented voices” since they founded the London-based company last year.

Beddoe said: “We’re an independent company that values creativity above all else, working with the best of the best to make dramas, films and documentaries with a global ambition. Avalon can help us do this, and we look forward to the journey ahead with them.”

Barantini added: “We want to tell powerful stories that resonate and provoke through film, television and documentaries on the biggest scale possible. We are deeply passionate about the industry and where we come from, and this partnership with Avalon will take us to the next level.”

Prior to helming and exec producing Netflix smash Adolescence – which It’s All Made Up co-produced with Warp Films - Barantini directed one-shot restaurant drama Boiling Point through its three iterations: a short film, a movie, and then a BBC1 TV series. He has also directed BBC1 drama The Responder, ITV1’s Malpractice and Netflix movie Accused.

Beddoe has previously worked in production finance for Disney, LucasFilm, FX Networks and the BBC, and teamed up with Barantini as executive producer on the Boiling Point movie and co-producer of Accused before co-founding the company.

Taskmaster and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver producer Avalon has taken a minority stake in It’s All Made Up and said it would align the label with its global talent management business.
