More than 20 recruiters from Manchester’s leading production companies took part in the latest of our regional networking events.
The execs, from the likes of ITV, Blakeway North and Crackit, were joined by over 80 freelancers at Dock10 in MediaCity for an evening of talent ‘’speed-dating’’.
This was our 3rd Talent Manager event in a series aimed to spread the talent network across the country and in this case, to give freelancers a chance to connect with key industry figures in Manchester. Artlab Films’ John Marques was impressed at Dock10 as a venue as it was in a “really handy location, close to a lot of company offices, familiar to a lot of freelancers” of which he met a significant proportion. With plenty of space and a selection of drinks and nibbles, the atmosphere was buzzing, particularly as a result of such a great turnout.
Dock10 is one of the leading post-production houses in the country and for the past 3 years, it has been a finalist for the Broadcast Awards ‘Best Post Production House’ prize. It is also home to the UK’s biggest multi-camera TV studio for Major Productions.
All the 12 companies were set up with a workspace from which they could interact with the freelancers. The speed networking system was a hit and the feedback has hailed the relaxed and informal attitudes as a big benefit. Joe Lajszczuk, an Assistant Producer currently at Meridian Line Films, commented that there was “really good range of companies relevant to my career”. Katharine McCallum, a Casting Researcher currently at Studio Lambert, even noted that there were “a few companies I actually didn’t even know!”
