Blue-light docs producer Raw Cut has hired its first dedicated head of development in two years.

Frank MacDonald joins the popular factual indie behind Channel 5’s Police Interceptors, Really’s Cops UK: Bodycam Squad and BBC1’s A&E On the Road.

MacDonald was previously development executive at FirecrestFilms and has previously held development producer roles at The Garden, Pulse Films, Mentorn Media, Ricochet and Nutopia. He also helped created daytime show Judge Rinder in three years as an assistant producer at ITV.

Since previous head of development Dee Kahlon left in 2018, development has been split between Raw Cut’s execs, including head of production Tina Lohmann and creative director Gerry Melling.

Kahlon subsequently joined Faraz Ozman’s creative agency Gold Wala.

MacDonald said of his move to Raw Cut: “It’s great to see an indie grow during these difficult times. It’s a mark of the quality of the leadership and the strength of the output that they’ve set their sights on further expansion. I can’t wait to get up and running.”

The indie’s current projects include BBC1’s Defenders UK, which is being made through a newly-established Welsh subsidiary Tomos TV.
