ITV Studios is calling for documentary producers to submit ideas this week for its annual Factual Pitch programme.

Producers have until Thursday 28 January to pitch for true crime, lifestyle, hidden worlds and ‘armchair travel’ docs that would be financed, produced and distributed by ITV Studios with a host of international partners.

These comprise ITV and Channel 4, as well as A+E Networks UK, Seven Network Australia, PBS, Discovery and China’s Tencent Video.

More specifically, ITV Studios is looking for:

  • Short-run serialized ideas along the lines of Netflix's Making a Murderer [pictured], preferably set in the UK, the US or Australia. These would three to six episodes and would not have hosts.
  • “Aspirational and feelgood” lifestyle pitches with a first-person point of view, such as ABC's Extreme Weight Loss. These could include docusoap, makeover, competitive reality or property series.

  • Hidden worlds and armchair travel pitches that offer viewers exclusive access to “extraordinary places” over three to six episodes.

Pitches will move forward in the first half of March.
