Channel 4 has hired a former 4Talent Scotland commissioner as its main point of access for indies.

Rebecca Thompson is returning to the broadcaster later this month as head of indie relations, a role created in January that chief content officer Ian Katz said would make C4 “a simpler and speedier creative partner”.

Based in Glasgow, Thomson will develop and maintain indie relationships, manage C4’s nations and regions initiative the Emerging Indie Fund and support commissioners to order shows from outside London.

Thompson joins in late June and will report to Emma Hardy, who was promoted in January to director of commissioning operations.

In her previous C4 role, which she left in 2008, Thompson helped create mobile apps, comedy sketches delivered by SMS and a TV drama pilot. She has also delivered projects for Keo Films, Rezzable Productions, Film City Futures and Scottish charity Space Club.

In C4’s most recent annual supplier survey, producers said they wanted more streamlined communication, greater clarity on editorial strategy and faster responses and decisions.
