US-based indie World of Wonder has brought in a head of its UK production arm to capitalise on the success of BBC3’s version of Drag Race UK.

Johnni Javier has returned to the company after seven years away, having previously been its head of production in Los Angeles from 2006 to 2014 – five years before World of Wonder set up in the UK.

He began his career as a producer/director with the company and more recently has been head of production and operations at Blast! Films. Since joining that company in 2015, he has amassed credits such as Channel 4’s Jade: The Reality Star Who Changed Britain and current Sky documentary series Liverpool Narcos.

Javier will oversee the upcoming third series of Drag Race UK and will develop new shows for the company, which is also looking to find more scripted shows and documentaries that can join Drag Race on its own streamer Wow Presents Plus.

World of Wonder set up shop in the UK two years ago to launch the adaptation of the RuPaul-fronted US show.

Versions of Drag Race have also been launched in Australia/New Zealand and Spain earlier this year.
