Indieab has opened entries for its annual Accelerator programme for emerging and mid-sized indies.
Now in its seventh year, the scheme aims to help at least 15 early and mid-stage production companies to grow their business through a mix of online and in-person masterclasses and seminars covering investment and business planning.
This year it will add new sessions focused on growing revenue streams, becoming more accessible and inclusive and building relationships with global SVoDs.
“A UK indie today needs to be so much more than its UK commissions,” said Indielab founder and programme director Victoria Powell.
“Our new sessions will help them better navigate the evolving opportunities in the global market and ensure that the creatives at the helm become excellent leaders as their businesses change.
“Truly successful companies are positive and inclusive places to work, so we will also be making sure the cohort members have what they need to develop a healthy culture alongside a healthy slate.”
To reflect the boom in scripted, Indielab has raised the entry threshold to up to £10m in turnover for indies that can demonstrate some scripted production. For non-scripted indies, the cap on turnover remains £6m.
To participate, indies must have had at least two broadcast credits within the last two years. For start-ups, the founder must have three credits as a producer, series producer or executive producer within the past three years.
Last year’s cohort included Little Bird Films, Clearstory, King of Sunshine, Rare TV and Black Camel Pictures.
Industry charity The TV Foundation has joined as a sponsor alongside established supporters including the BBC, Channel 4, Screen Scotland and Creative Wales. Sony Pictures Television is offering a diversity bursary scheme.
This year’s programme begins on 9 May, with two deadlines: 28 February (early bird) and 31 March. Virtual background briefings take placer on 21 and 28 February.
