Former Channel 4 head of fact ent Liam Humphreys has joined Minnow Films to help the indie bolster its constructed factual slate.
In the newly-created role of head of constructed factual, Humphreys will oversee Minnow's C4 series SAS: Who Dares Wins and develop new projects in the genre.
Since its launch in 2015, the survival format has become a flagship for Minnow, with a regular series and celebrity version airing each year. It operates a fixed rig of 42 cameras and has a 150-strong production team.
Minnow founder and chief executive hailed the exec’s “brilliant mind” and his “long and proven track record in large-scale, ambitious, and entertaining unscripted” in his 13 years at C4, where he launched shows such as The Jump, The Island with Bear Grylls, Child Genius, The Undateables and Big Fat Gypsy Weddings.
Since he left C4 in 2017, Humphreys spent three years as chief executive of Fremantle UK, launching shows such as Too Hot to Handle for Netflix and Ed Stafford’s 60 Days… for C4.
He recently worked with Discovery to establish a commissioning model for Discovery+ and has consulted for indies including Twofour, The Garden and Honeybee Media. He has also been helping C4 shape its 40th birthday slate.
Humphreys joins Minnow next month.
