Scottish drama producer Freedom Scripted has become the 18th company to come under the wing of Channel 4’s Indie Growth Fund.
Set up in 2018, the company joins fellow Glaswegian indies Firecrest Films and Two Rivers Media in the fund’s portfolio.
It now plans to staff up and expand beyond its current development slate, which includes an adaptation of Sarah Moss’ novel Summerwater, crime thriller Southside and drama Unseen.
Indie Growth Fund head Caroline Murphy said C4 was attracted by the drama experience of Freedom Scripted founder Mike Ellen, whose credits include script-editing iconic STV series Taggart and Rebus and producing 50 episodes of BBC Scotland’s River City.
Ellen has also been head of development at both Alex Rider indie Eleventh Hour and unscripted producer On The Corner, which made Oscar-winning feature doc Senna.
