S4C is to get its own Welsh-language version of Gogglebox in a pioneering format partnership with Channel 4.

A tender opened today for indies to bid to co-produce Gogglebocs Cymru with the popular format’s creators Studio Lambert this autumn.

Commissioned to mark C4’s 40th birthday, the 11 x 60-minute series has a £70,000-per-hour tariff and will feature contributors from around Wales as well as Welsh speakers across the UK.

The winning company will work with S4C, C4 and Studio Lambert on the series, which will air ahead of this autumn’s regular Gogglebox series.

S4C chief content officer Llinos Griffin-Williams said: “I am thrilled that Channel 4 has, for the first time, made an exception with one of their most valued formats, by agreeing to release exclusivity of Gogglebox in the UK to S4C.

“As two public service broadcasters, with a close and collaborative working relationship, we are delighted to be entrusted with such an important brand.”
