The co-founder of Alaska TV has launched a talent-driven indie specialising in factual, fact ent and true crime.
Ian Lamarra has stood down as creative lead at Alaska, which he co-founded 14 years ago, to set up Soho Studios Entertainment, which will be based in Glasgow and London’s Soho.
He plans to build on his experience in working with talent at Alaska, such as Damian Lewis, Emilia Fox, Lorraine Kelly, Julie Walters and Sir Trevor McDonald, with a range of ‘ideas-plus-talent’ packages of long- and short-form content that spans TV, audio, digital and live events.
Lamarra as a co-director is Paul Sandler, former Objective Productions managing director who went on to set up Cats on the Roof Media and is currently managing director of Derren Brown’s Vaudeville Productions.
He is also a non-executive director of Sohail Shah’s indie King of Sunshine Productions.
Also on board as an advisor is Francis Ridley, the chief executive of Money Group Entertainment (MGE), a talent agency whose clients include Dani Dyer, Sadie Frost, Edith Bowman, Trevor Nelson and Rick Edwards.
Lamarra is currently working with MGE client Jameela Jamil on Snap Originals format I Want to Get Better [working title].
