I realise the whole military vs. journalists arena is a conflict of interest at the very least, but are there any useful traits that reservists can contribute to researcher / AP roles?
Are there any Army/Navy/RAF/Airforce reservists freelancing in TV?

Yes! Teamwork, tenacity, a positive attitude, strong work ethic, choice banter .... I could go on.
I am a freelance DoP and a reserve officer in the Danish army. Guess it is an unusual combination and I will leave it up to others to evaluate me :-)
You get quite a few ex-forces involved in expedition-type productions, but I don't know any current reservists who are freelancers. Getting the time off work to go on training exercises etc might be problematic for someone in a non-staff role.

I was in the Army Reserves and am now an AP. I think a lot of the training you get is very beneficial to working in TV - mainly getting on with the job no matter what!

Rossa McPhillips is military and consults on screenwriting - he's great!

Yes - I know of lots. It works very well. The skills are completely transferable.

Yes! I'm a DV Director / Producer, and also in the Royal Navy Reserves. I'm freelance, and I fit in training between TV contracts. Yes, there is a conflict of interest, but it's never caused me a problem. I'd agree with Joanne and Doug in terms of traits - being resilient, determined, positive etc all useful transferrable skills. I don't know any other reservists who work in TV though so I'm glad there are others out there!!
