Development Researcher tips

Hi everyone! I've been lucky to have a few development roles in my time, but so often I get told I need more experience for roles I apply to. Any advice on how to work around/with this? It seems ironic that I don't have enough experience but am not able to get any more either... :-(
I spend most of my time poring over the Radio Times to see what's on and am subscribed to Broadcast, plus I'm always developing my own ideas too. Any tips welcome!
