@BecsHall Brilliant talk diversifying work practice
Karmen Summers
@BecsHall How does it work with interviews and Job sharing? Do both people have to interview and get the job? What if the company likes one but not the other? Or do you interview together?
Josie Wicks
Should job share partners invoice at the same rate? Or should individuals invoice their own current rate at 50% (half their current weekly rate?)
Charlie Jacobs
@BecsHall Ladies I work for Media Flights which is a specialist travel company for the media and production industry. I have to say as a single mother of young twins hearing you talk about this subject is so inspiring. Hats off to you all.
Becs Hall
@CharlieJacobs thanks Charlie! I think a single mother of twins sounds pretty inspiring too!
Sharon Tucker
Similar to Josie's question - should you negotiate a rate as a pair or individually? (if a simple 5 day split in half)
Karen Hoy
As someone who can't work full time due to a tiring disability and needing to factor in rest, I've always thought I'd complement a parent really well, because I can do school run hours, but have never quite got a handle on to how to move this forward. So this is really helpful, thank you.
Becs Hall
@KarenHoy thank you! and it sounds like the perfect combination - school run is always such a tricky thing to accomodate when you work full time.
Angus McIntyre
@BecsHall Very interesting talk. I was just wondering whether you have noticed any significance difference in the way men job-share? Any differences there?
Becs Hall
@AngusMcIntyre such a great question, sorry this came through after we finished @MichelleReynolds what say you?

Michelle Reynolds
@AngusMcIntyre this is a good question. We are certainly seeing more men wanting to job-share although there is sometimes a worry they will be seen as less committed. I haven’t noticed a significant difference in the way men and women job-share - there is an understanding that in a job-share your success is directly linked to the success of your job-share partner. This means that you can’t compete, you have to be able to relinquish control and to communicate openly.
Angus McIntyre
@MichelleReynolds Thanks for the interesting reply Michelle - Yes, I'd be interested in trying it (being an edit producer with young child) and I reckon it could work very well in that role as I regularly 'share' an episode with multiple edit producers and weoften take-on each other's work (no room for egos) so I imagine sharing the job would be similar.
Michelle Reynolds
@AngusMcIntyre check out the videos on our old site - they include interviews with editors and edit producers who job-share - it can totally be done!

I cried watching this as I relate so much. The part about multiple tasks trying to do everything at once to not upset anyone was the bit that hit me the most. I've cried at the tea table more than I can count!
Becs Hall
@MeganRussell sorry to hear this 😕 I remember those pressures all too well from when I was a runner too. The FTVC are there to help, do check their website out. You’re not alone!

@The Talent Manager Yup.. be grateful you have a job. I often wonder if other industries are like this, or is it just ours?x
Becs Hall
@HollyRitchie it feels like it's compounded in the creative industries because it's mainly a freelance workforce, don't you agree? Thanks for your comment!
Holly Ritchie
@The Talent Manager I daily wish right now that I'd just gone and studied Law at Uni!
Becs Hall
@HollyRitchie but imagine if there wasn't so much pressure on the whole team - then working in TV would be MUCH better than law. No? FTVC are trying to make that a reality!
James Wright
@BecsHall the coffee thing happened to me on the first day of my first gig

@JamesWright I had to find sushi in the middle of nowhere on one of my first shoots. And this was when sushi wasn't even a thing
Lauren Hawthorne
@The Talent Manager This is all so real and affects all of us from Runners to PDs to SPs and crew. I'm sorry but I just don't believe things will change. Budgets and therefore schedules are getting tighter and tighter and we're all working against the clock to deliver in unreasonable conditions. The change needs to come from the top of the industry - Commissioners and Production Companies so that the delivery expectations are manageable and deliverable.
Becs Hall
@LaurenHawthorne Yes, all good points. I wonder how we can start making a real change....
Eric Mossi
@BecsHall This is 100 percent true. And it falls right into me. I am the one of the most hardest working most efficient person at my job.But am treated like a dog. Managers don't understand that a happy employee is harder working employee. Treat people nice listen to their concerns, make sure there happy. Work with your team as a tram.
Becs Hall
@EricMossi I'm sorry to hear this - no one deserves to feel like this at work. Even if the job is full on, it makes it all the easier knowing you are supported and valued. I'm sure you do a sterling job Eric!
Paul Kerrigan
For too long now the system has been broken and as we can all witness with each passing year it is getting much worse, how often do each of us start our day at work already 3 hours behind schedule.

I’m old school so whenever I witness a crew member not being treated in a respectful way that everyone should be, I always speak up to calm the situation, reminding everyone including myself that we are all doing our very best. If on a shoot as so often I too am pushed by others for time at least I have the authority to say that when working I only have two speeds and my other is slower.

Consequently I work less these days, but at least I sleep well on a night, however my biggest fear is that there are many in this industry that do not.

It’s time for change!
Becs Hall
@PaulKerrigan so good that you speak up - and it sounds like you are able to validate everyone's feelings of stress in that moment. Thank you! I think that is what this FTVC video highlights - the pressure that everyone is under all the time. Definitely time for a change.
Troy Reid
This resonates deeply from my years in TV.

The pressure in these industries stems from an unsustainable cycle—chasing money and DEADLINES!

Whilst I don't see this high-pressure environment changing soon, we need two meaningful shifts: better mental health screening and support for those entering these fields, and leadership that acknowledges the personal sacrifices made throughout the entire process—not just at wrap parties.

Creative excellence shouldn't require sacrificing our humanity!
Becs Hall
@TroyReid very important points made, thanks for this.
