British movies Conclave and Kneecap are among the big contenders in this year’s Bafta film awards.
Conclave, which is co-produced by House Productions, FilmNation Entertainment and Indian Paintbrush, leads the way with 12 nominations, including best film, outstanding British film, best director and in the costume design, editing and production design categories.
Meanwhile, Irish-language release Kneecap, has scored six nominations: outstanding British film, outstanding debut by a British writer, director or producer, film not in the English language, casting, editing and original screenplay.
Aardman’s Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, which had a limited cinema release prior to its Christmas Day broadcast on BBC1, has three nominations: outstanding British film, animated film, and children’s & family film.
The outstanding British film shortlist also features Bird, Blitz, Gladiator II, Hard Truths, Lee, Love Lies Bleeding and The Outrun.
The other nominees for outstanding debut by a British writer, director or producer are Luna Carmoon’s Hoard, Dev Patel’s Monkey Man, documentary maker Sandhya Suri’s fiction debut, Santosh, and Karan Kandhari’s Hindi/English-language comedy Sister Midnight.
Meanwhile, the documentary shortlist comprises Japanese feature Black Box, Israel-Palestine doc No Other Land, HBO’s Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story and Netflix’s Will & Harper and Daughters.
The winners will be announced on 16 February.
