Factual indie True Vision is expanding with the appointment of Raw Cut’s Mark Roberts as its inaugural creative director.

Roberts will oversee the development of True Vision’s documentaries and returning factual series, building on shows such as Channel 4’s Football Cops [pictured], BBC1 single Growing Up Jewish and BBC3’s Stacey Dooley: Ready for War?.

The hire is expected to be followed by further signings as the company continues to broaden its portfolio in its 30th year of business with a greater mix of documentaries and fact-based dramas, both through its main operation and sister company Candour TV.

Founder and chief executive Brian Woods will focus on successors to blue-chip single docs as ITV’s A Time to Die and factual dramas that build on its Bafta-winning BBC1 series The Sixth Commandment, a co-production with Banijay label Wild Mercury.

Robert joins after three years as group creative director at Police Interceptors indie Raw.

He has previously been a creative director for Firecrest Films and Mentorn Media, head of factual at Dragonfly, and an editor of news and current affairs at C4 – where he commissioned True Vision docs including China’s Stolen Children and Uncover in Tibet.

Woods said: “We are incredibly lucky to have persuaded Mark to come on board, having first started to work with him almost 20 years ago. He has a fantastic track record for securing returning factual series and is absolutely committed to the ideals that True Vision have always stood for.”
