Are TV skills transferable into a PR/ COMMS role?

I'd like to work in the third sector, are my existing TV skills transferable into a PR and Communications role?

My partner is a creative director at a PR company and he was a journalist for 20 years - I asked him what he thought and he said there definitely are transferable skills - however you would also need to learn the commercial side of the business so would need to start probably at a lower level than maybe an AP is in Telly... however he said creativity and good knowledge of broadcast are also important skills - so you would probably move up through the ranks quickly.

Also it’s much more secure than telly and good PR people are in demand! Good luck!

I hope so, Daisy! I'm currently a Comms/Marketing content creative manager at a large global retailer and am looking at transferring into a more hands on production role, ideally in documentaries or factual tv. So, doing the opposite switch.

If you'd like to know more/chat let me know!
