I was an Assistant Editor at BBC Breakfast, with editorial responsibility for all scripts and films in the three hour show. I also produced and output large scale OBs for the BBC and ITV. I started my television career as a producer and spent many happy hours in the edit suite, working alongside editors to deliver creative, high quality films under time pressure, and forging great friendships along the way. I even set one editor up on a blind date with his now wife, (you’re welcome Jonny Strachan).I left the Beeb a year ago and went freelance, recently setting up a small comms company, specialising in making fast turnaround films. My first three commissions were StormBrands design agency, LawPanel legal tech scale up, and Ted Todd Fine Wood Floors.I'm comfortable working with high profile presenters and management, as well as managing diverse teams. My time at the BBC means I don't officially have the 'credits' Talent Manager looks for, but I am confident, creative, and an absolute perfectionist in the edit suite, with tons of editorial experience.Communication & Events
I've also produced lots of live events, including the Design Effectiveness Awards 2019, where I was responsible for film-making and script-editing the running order, and producing BBC London presenter Alice Bhanhukravi who presented awards. I managed media coverage afterwards, including writing and targeting press releases through various channels, (Meltwater, Linked In, twitter) and liaising with journalists over live and pre-recorded interviews. For the BBC Sustainability Season 2018 staff and outreach event, I ensured high engagement and secured key speakers including Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and Blue Planet underwater cameraman Doug Allan, and organised a dinner event for 150 external guests, catered by award-winning Vegan chef Matt Nutter and featuring climate-change comedian Matt Winning Phd.I also produced the BBC's ‘With You Shortly’ digital festival, attracting big names in the national media industry, such as Lucy Lendrem from Gleam Futures and Dan’l Hewitt from Maker Studios. It was streamed live online, as well as engaging several hundred people who attended sessions throughout the day, from MediaCityUK and the wider Manchester digital community. Some other events...
Leadership for senior BBC editorial staff, including ‘Unconscious Bias’ with Femi Otitoju, Challenge Consultancy and astrophysicist, Prof Brian Cox.
BBC Education Strategy launch, including introductory film and press briefing notes.
Speech writing for former BBC Chief Operating Officer Jenny Baxter to deliver at external events, on subjects ranging from women in business to smart working and BBC ways of entry, all aimed at managing and enhancing the BBC’s reputation, and in particular the role of BBC North to the region.Training
Classroom-based learning to journalists, with an emphasis on ‘real world’ impact, when transitioning from ENPS to OpenMedia broadcast systems. I used my experience of live TV output to lead and support 'on-air' dry-runs, and trouble-shoot live programming.
