I am an award-winning documentary director and former national newspaper journalist and author. I have expert skills in originating, developing, writing, producing and directing ambitious and impactful international films. I'm skilled in directing cinematic drama sequences - and creatively using archive footage - to illustrate complex and arresting narratives with an accomplished and distinctive visual aesthetic.
I am experienced in securing access and successfully working with A-list talent. I also sensitively manage challenging and vulnerable contributors – and environments - to produce engaging and original content 
I have extensive edit experience, taking each of my films through offline and confidently directing and overseeing all aspects of post-production.
I self-shoot on primes and am experienced and confident in directing DoPs and crews. I’ve directed many films on location (UK, USA, Asia and Europe) and am skilled in producing, planning, scheduling and organising all aspects of location shoots while confidently managing crew, contributors, budget and logistics.
Ultimately, I’m passionate about storytelling. I have a wide variety of life experiences to draw upon; from a career as a ballet dancer, to teaching dance and drama in Holloway Prison and working as an actor in theatre and television. Before moving into television, I worked as a staff journalist for over 10 years on national newspapers and magazines (The Mail on Sunday, Daily Mirror, Sunday Times). This enabled me to acquire robust journalistic skills, a strong story-telling sensibility and a high-level of interviewing expertise.
I have excellent writing skills and am experienced in writing pitches that have been commissioned. I’m also the published author of five books.
My ideas have been commissioned (Netflix, C4, ITV, BBC3 and eOne) and made as co-pros with my own small company One Films.
I’ve also worked as an Executive Producer and in Development.
I bring exacting editorial standards and ensure all projects I undertake are delivered on time, under budget and fully compliant.
