I'm an experienced writer of PTCs and V.O and I've worked in a broad range of genres, including comedy, drama and animation and enjoy using elements of these in my factual/documentary work. I also produce and direct online promotional films for arts and cultural organisations including V&A (London and Dundee), National Library of Scotland, The UK Games Fund, British Council, and MoMA (New York).
My main areas of interest are social history, archive, arts/music, comedy and sport. I was awarded a BAFTA in 2003 as director of Series 1 of the CBBC fantasy adventure show, Raven. My most recent credit 'Undisputed: The Life and Times of Ken Buchanan' tells the story of the rise and fall of a former world boxing champion, and received a 2022 RTS Scotland award for best Sports Programme. 'Circling A Fox,' funded by Screen Scotland this creative blend of documentary and drama was a Guardian/Observer pick of the day and was selected for the History Film Festival in Rijeka, Croatia. 'Riveting viewing. I defy you to hold back the tears' Misha Glenny (author of McMafia), The Herald. 'A fascinating and experimental documentary' Ammar Kalia, The Guardian. 'A hugely enjoyable, old fashioned mystery, romantic thriller and wartime drama.' Gavin Docherty, Daily Express. Brian Cox’s Jute Journey, reviewed by A.A Gill in the Sunday Times as being ‘an unusual and beautiful documentary,’ screened at the Valladolid Film Festival. Scotland on Sunday reviewed my music documentary, Shetland Lone Star as being ‘the week’s most gloriously accomplished programme. Sublime.’ In 2012 I filmed and directed my first feature length documentary, No One But Me, about the life of legendary Jazz Vocalist Annie Ross, which launched to 4 star reviews at the Glasgow Film Festival. Other productions include Scotland’s First Oil Rush with Professor Ian Stewart (TVi/BBC Scotland/BBC Four), Nukes, Subs ad Secrets (Hopscotch Films/BBC Scotland), Oscar Marzaroli, Man with a Camera (Hopscotch Films/BBC Scotland) and No Sleep til’ Yell (Hopscotch Films/BBC Scotland).
I own a Sony FX3 camera and I self-shot Circling a Fox, Annie Ross: No One But Me, and Oscar Marzaroli: Man with a Camera. I can also use Premier Pro editing software.
