With over 25 years in the broadcast industry as a seasoned Director of Photography, my journey has been both broad based and incredibly fulfilling. From high-profile Disney ventures to small independent productions and youtube videos,  I've navigated projects of all scales, and have been really lucky to have travelled pretty much everywhere. I've camped in the Libyan desert at the Cave of the Swinmers, recreated the Powell Expedition down 270 miles of Grand Canyon White water, cave dived in cenotes in the Yucatan, followed migrating Elephants on the Skeleton coast,  filmed hummingbirds in the Colombian cloud forest, swam with Giant Salamanders in the mountains of Guangdong Province, crawled into undisturbed tombs in Egypt, watched Condors float over the Chilean Andes, lived with the San people in Namibia, the Wauja in Amazonas, the Afar in Ethiopia and the entourages in Hollywood. I've learn't a huge amount, that basically people are pretty nice wherever you go if you take an interest in them, that stuff always goes wrong, and kit always breaks at the worst moment. It's in these moments that, if you keep your head, great things can happen. Working in documentaries for such a long time, you have to be versatile, think of creative solutions, move stories or locations around, use the light to your advantage and this is where I'm most comfortable.

I've always been interested in photography. As a kid I always had cameras and lenses and took them apart to see how they worked.  I like quirks and charm, old lenses with modern sensors. I approach each project with fresh eyes, constantly looking for new perspectives or different ways to light scenes.

Collaboration is key to my approach. I work closely with directors, I do like to actually see scripts and locations well in advance to get a plan together.  Adaptability is a cornerstone of my ethos, allowing me to thrive in any environment or situation.

In terms of equipment, I really like RED Digital cinema cameras for their reliability, look and exceptional performance. I've had Canon, Blackmagic and will suffer the awful menus from Sony but Red is my fav. Fujifilms are bringing out the Eterna this year, so that could be interesting too.

I think my core strengths are in lighting and handheld shooting and I'm pretty decent on the gimbal too. I like kit and like to see new ways of doing things. I've recently dabbled a bit with AI generated backgrounds which look pretty good, although currently, with most AI, everything has a weird inhuman sheen to it, including the countless other chat gpt resumes you've no doubt read.
