I’m Rhys! I’m a Creative and Cultural Industries MA graduate with experience in production, creative marketing and award-winning writing. 

Being selected for the Dragon List in 2023 and 2024 at the International Film Festival of Wales was a significant achievement and an example of my dedication to my hard work and creative output. The list aims to celebrate emerging industry talent and in the same festival, I won the special writing commendation. I was also selected for the Oxford Film Awards in January 2024, the Young Playwright Award twice and recently came first place in Feel the Reel International Film Festival. I was also selected as a finalist for the Channel 4 New Writers scheme in 2024 and in the top 20% of the 2022 BBC Writer’s Academy.

I have also worked as a development intern for the production company Blackbox Multimedia. In this role, I have written numerous script reports on optioned books and various pilots. I also provided insightful notes, generated story ideas and edited showreels for agents and producers. This has given me professional experience in office running and team collaboration, and I have used these skills to organise and create pitch documents, marketing packs and script edits. Throughout my Cultural and Creative Industries MA program, I demonstrated adaptability by developing my skills in various forms of media production and creative advertising. As a staff writer and producer at Radio Cardiff, I navigated Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress and Canva for content editing and publication, showcasing my proficiency in various computer software tools. This experience not only enhanced my technical capabilities but also exposed me to the fast-paced nature of a creative office. In addition, I have had experience in production assistant roles through internships with Bak Films and Buzz Culture, where I demonstrated excellent communication skills within a high-pressure environment.
 
My involvement as the Editor of Redbrick Film, overseeing the newspaper's film section in print and online, showcased my ability to work well under deadlines, manage a team effectively and ensure the timely release of high-quality content. In addition to this, I was in charge of staying up to date with media industry trends, as well as marketing and selling the section's output to distribution contacts. As a chief writer for this section, I had experience reviewing films and encouraging audiences to see new releases or seek out hidden gems. As the Co-Founder of Hark! Entertainment, I assumed a leadership role, managing budgets and ensuring sustainability in our film productions and social media marketing. This experience developed my comfort with numbers and various technical elements of production coordination. Taking on this challenge also highlighted my commitment to fostering new stories in the film and TV industry, something which has translated to award-winning projects being screened at film festivals and community events. My role as a Script Editor and Production Assistant for other independent films further demonstrated my organisational skills as I successfully balanced multiple tasks, managed tight deadlines and ensured a structured workflow in the production process.
