I'm a thoroughly experienced television director with advanced technical film making skills, particularly suited to challenging location shoots. Specialist competence and experience includes: aerial (helicopters and UAVs), climbing/rope access, vehicles, boats, firearms/pyro, underwater/whitewater filming and SFX. However, I'm just as at home with more sedate and cerebral pastures: architecture, design, antiques and gardening. Credits include Britain's Favourite Walks: Top 100, Countryfile, Salvage Hunters, Turkey's Hidden Gems, Top Gear, The One Show, Gardeners World, The Travel Show, Holiday and Flog It. I have also made award winning content for the NHS in sensitive subject areas.
I've worked with some of the best and most demanding presenter talent, who tend to feel comfortable knowing that they are in safe, accomplished hands.
As a (former UK number 1) music video director I've worked with acts as diverse as The Manic Street Preachers, Skunk Anansie, Patty Griffin, Paul Van Dyk and The Osmonds. It was during this period that I learned the most complex film making skills, on formats from 35mm Cineflex to super 8, cut my teeth as a DOP and editor, and became confident taking charge of huge sets and production crews. I also co-owned a music video and commercials production company, representing some huge names, so I do have an insight into the challenges that independent production companies face,
I am physically very fit and am at home in the wilderness, remote landscapes and hostile natural elements from the arctic to deserts. I've worked across many genres and am adept at understanding a brief and crafting a project for its intended audience, be that a bunch of heavy metal fans, corporate executives, adventurers or lovers of good design. I'm calm/phlegmatic and lead from the front when things get difficult. I believe that we all have a great job and like to encourage my colleagues to enjoy the work through thick and thin. I love developing younger talent and encouraging them to broaden their skills. For those in an exec role I try to balance their demands honestly, knowing the pressure they are under, with the practicalities of what is achievable. I'm not a yes man, but will always try to do what is possible.
I am accustomed to the particular demands of working with American networks and have managed H&S/Risk for over 30 years.
