I worked with Joe on a series for Discovery. I was series producer, he came on as AP. As is usually the case, things got rather busy and it was soon required that he step up to location directing, edit producing and writing scripts. Thankfully Joe was able to take on the responsibility with aplomb. He was a brilliant member of the team and a person who I couldn't have done without. The only downside to the whole experience was that he had to leave. I couldn't recommend him highly enough.
