I just watched ‘Mickey 17’.

And I have some opinions.

It’s a great premise.. but the execution is very amateurish.

As an editor.. this commits the worst sin of being led by voice over for 30mins. It’s a full quarter of the runtime before we get into proper scenes.

It’s makes it super hard to relate to the characters.. and it felt exposition heavy.

The fact that the trailer managed to get the point across in 2 mins shows this part of the movie could have been cut down hugely.

When we get into scenes.. the movie again feels unfocused, with a lot of fat in the scenes.

The main theme of the movie is pretty predicable, once you get half way through however it’s watchable popcorn fodder.

It’s not terrible. But disappointing.

It’s no classic, and I don’t see many watching this over and over again in 20 years.

If curious about the idea.. it’s probably worth a look, but don’t expect too much.

I loved the first season of ‘Severence’.

And finding season 2 had a great start, but soon became a bit unfocused.

And I just watched the latest episode.

It’s one of those where we don’t see the main cast at all, but instead focus on another character, albeit on from the previous series.

It’s mercifully short at 37mims. But it doesn’t feel like a satisfying weekly instalment.

While there are a few revelations in it.. they are drawn out to the extreme.

I can help but feel this was an extra episode spun out of scenes that could otherwise been inserted into regular episodes.

There are just 2x episodes of this series left, and no real conclusions in sight.

This is a great show, with stunning music.

But we need to belive there is a conclusion to the mystery, even if we get a bigger question as a cliff hanger.

Hopefully that is the case.

How has everyone else been finding this season?

@NickNorton Loving it. Episode 8 suffered from the weekly release I think - these kind of bottle episodes are hard to pull off in a multi-character mystery, as they put the brakes on major storylines, but they can make more sense when watching back-to-back. There have been many highs this series, not least the previous stunning episode. I agree that it would have worked better strung through the series. But the show in general is so thoughtful and well-crafted. I'm keeping the faith!
