I worked in BBC factual television for 18 years and have been freelance since 2017. I am a confident and versatile PD with credits across BBC1, BBC2 and BBC4, Channel 4, ZDF, Arte, the history Channel, A&E, from long-form scripted documentaries, to shorts for the One Show, the BBC's Events department and the See Hear strand for the deaf. I've worked across the factual genres - science, arts, and current affairs - specialising mainly in history, and often using my in-depth knowledge of Russian. I have experience of a wide variety of documentary styles including presenter-led, archive and ob doc, as well as charity appeal films, working closely with charities and contributors to convey a powerful message that raises both awareness and funding for a range of charities. For this last role i was series producing the strand and worked closely with various bodies both within and beyond the BBC, which required diplomacy and deft organisational skills. Before starting in TV, I spent 6 years at the World Service producing, series producing and presenting radio documentaries in Russian aimed at a new generation of Russians grappling with the realitiesof a new post Soviet world. I combine a strong sense of editorial with creative storytelling and enjoy coming up with visual ways to bring a subject or story alive. I'm skilled at bringing out the best in people on screen, whether they are vulnerable contributors with a difficult emotional story to tell, or presenters, and I have a wide range of experience directing both new and more experienced talent, from Martin Clunes to Alison Steadman, Helen Castor, Julia Bradbury and most recently Alice Roberts.
