About Us

For the past 5 years James Honeyborne’s Freeborne Media has been producing high end natural history and science content exclusively for Netflix, at their production hub, Wild Space Productions.

Freeborne Media makes a range of science and natural history productions that engage global audiences – our work informs, entertains and most of all celebrates the incredible stories of biodiversity that our planet has to offer. Through our work, we champion authentic, local voices, stories and talent to create a variety of productions, from landmark TV series to livestreams and educational content.

2024 is a very exciting year for Freeborne Media. The much anticipated Our Living World narrated by Cate Blanchett, is now available to watch on Netflix, with two more landmark natural history shows hitting the platform later in the year.

Other projects include:

Surviving Paradise: A Family Tale, a feature length film produced and directed by Renee Godfrey, edited and co-directed by Matt Meech, and made in collaboration with Brad Bestelink and the Natural History Film Unit in Botswana.

Our Great National Parks, a five part project featuring former President Barack Obama and produced in association with Higher Ground Productions. Filmed throughout lockdown and offering a truly global perspective, the programmes explore the major habitats of the world and the wondrous range of species that live within them. The series celebrates the role that parks play in conservation and shares just how important they have become. As with all our output, the priority is to entertain and educate the audience and immerse them into the living, breathing heart of each Park featured. Obama won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Narrator for his work on this series.

Island of the Sea Wolves, narrated by Will Arnett, is a multi-Emmy winning three-part documentary launched on Netflix. It takes an intimate look at the lives of several Vancouver Island iconic wildlife species, including Cedar the wolf, Spiro the eagle, and Sky the sea otter.
