Cunk on Earth was a brilliantly exciting challenge – a comedy written by Charlie Brooker requiring all the skills that would go into the production of a landmark documentary. We needed scores of locations that would pass for exotic foreign locations as well as actual iconic spots like the colosseum and key institutions like the British Museum. Then there were the reconstructions – whether the incredible Diane Morgan was interacting with Jesus or Galileo the sets and the costumes needed to be totally convincing for the humour to work. And finally there was the biggest challenge of all – not laughing as some of the world’s leading academics were asked questions like “If all the Olympians were naked wouldn’t you see right up their bumholes?” Luckily our brilliant series producer Sam Ward and I had one of the best teams imaginable.
